Adama Lowe is big on Instagram for inspiring young black women to be proud of their skin

US-based Gambian, Adama Lowe's pride in her dark skin has inspired dozens of young women to follow her on Instagram, where she now has more than 150,000 followers. 

The budding social media influencer lives in the Bronx, a borough of New York City (NYC). 

In a recent Instagram post that garnered more than 19,000 likes, Adama wrote: "Black women, we are all beautiful and powerful. Keep shining." 

In another post, she described herself as the "African dark-skin Cinderella from the Bronx". 

Very little is known about Adama's upbringing, but according to her Facebook page, she is a former basketball player of the Women's National Basketball Association in the USA. 

She attended Kappa International, a famous public school with specialized opportunities for students to be successful. The Washington Post once ranked the school as one of the 10 most challenging schools in NYC. 

Adama owns an online clothing store.
