Whoever follows athletics closely knows that Gina Bass is one of the most dominant athletes in Africa. She is leaving no stone unturned in her bid to win a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Gina is the most decorated female athlete in Gambian history, but she wants to add more medals to her trophy case.

The Gambia National Olympic Committee disclosed on its Facebook page: "The track queen recorded her name in the history books in 2019 after winning the 200m gold at the African Games. She beat Ivorian Marie Josee Tallou, who was regarded as Africa‚Äôs fastest, setting a new national record with a time of 22:58."

26-year-old Gina currently holds national records in the 100 and 200 meters. She was the country's flagbearer at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Tokyo Olympics are due to start next month, despite a surge of Covid cases in Japan. It will feature 33 sports at 339 events across 42 venues.
