Who is Femi Mahoney and what is his real name? The identity of the mysterious Gambian political activist has been a closely guarded secret ever since he surfaced on Facebook.
In this edition of What’s On-Gambia, we take a look at the man behind the myths and rumours.
Who is Femi?
He is a proud supporter of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC). Femi Mahoney is based in England and according to sources; he could be an Aku from Banjul. Most of his posts on Facebook revolve around dark humour to criticism against the Coalition government.
In one of his recent posts, he described the United Democratic Party (UDP) leader, Ousainou Darboe’s interview with Kerr Fatou as a “political car crash”.
“Lawyer Darboe has just displayed why he is not cut to be a leader, and his lack of respect for basic rules.”
In another post that garnered a lot of comments, the subversive and secretive political activist predicted: “PDOIS, GDC and APRC shall merge to save Gambia from ANOTHER potential dictatorship.”
Reports reaching What’s On-Gambia revealed that the people who are trying desperately to unmask Femi are UDP supporters in the Diaspora who are not happy with his unending attacks against their party and leader, Ousainou Darboe.
Why does Femi hide his identity?
Since he surfaced on Facebook, Femi has never revealed himself. One DK Baldeh in the USA said: “he should for the time being remain anonymous ...for once his person is known, some or even many people are going to go personal on him - unfortunate as that would be.”
He added that The Gambia needs “truth talkers” like Femi.
Another keen follower of Femi, Bully Sowe described him as a great asset to the country and advised him to ignore those trying to unmask him.
Former President Jammeh’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC) retired Lieutenant-Colonel Lamin Gano recently told Femi: “Keep that mask in place, Sir Femi Mahoney.”
