It looks like the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Hon. Ousainou Darboe is preparing Pa Malick Nyassi to carry forward his father’s political legacy.
The University of The Gambia graduate was recently included in the team that accompanied Darboe to the USA, where the foreign minister succeeded in bolstering ties with the world’s most powerful country.
Pa Malick is the son of Shyngle Nyassi, who died in the USA in 2013 during a private visit. He was said to be one of the founding members of the UDP and later became the party’s propaganda secretary.
According to the UDP leader, Shyngle’s death is one of those events that will never be forgotten in the history of the country, as he was a political institution in his own right, a titan, and a giant.
‘‘He was a man who suffered for this nation; he lived for this nation and died for this nation.”
At the time of Shyngle’s death, his son, Pa Malick was attending the University of The Gambia, where he graduated in 2016 with a degree in Political Science.
A party insider revealed to What’s On-Gambia that his university education was funded by the UDP.
“I think Pa Malick is the first and only UDP member who was sponsored by the party to further his education,” said the insider.
Shortly before the presidential election, Pa Malick was elected to serve in the party’s executive. He played a significant role in President Barrow’s campaign.
It is now reported that the Political Science graduate is being trained by Darboe to take part in ‘real’ politics to carry forward his father’s political legacy.
