Gambian biomedical scientists establish diagnostic lab

A group of young biomedical scientists have recently established a medical diagnostic laboratory in Kanifing to offer Gambians high quality and advanced laboratory services at an affordable cost.

One of the founders of Affordable Quality Assurance (AQA), Ngange Kebbeh told What's On-Gambia: "Laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease in patients.

He added: "We are currently the most affordable medical diagnostic lab in the country. All of us at the lab, are trained in laboratory quality management systems which include ISO 15189 accreditation, good laboratory practice and laboratory health and safety management.

Here are the founders of AQA:

Dr Alansana Darboe

He is the CEO. Alansana holds a PhD in Immunology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom (UK). He has over 16 years of experience in both research and clinical laboratory practice.

Momodou Wuri Jallow

He is a final year PhD student at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Momodou is studying Human Molecular Genetics and Haematology. He has 15 years of extensive experience in working on research and clinical laboratory techniques.

Mamadou Jallow

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from Kingston University in England. Mamadou is currently doing a Master’s Degree in Immunology of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He has 8 years of experience in both clinical and research laboratory practice.

Momodou Barry

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Ulster in England. He has 7 years of laboratory experience in both clinical and research laboratory procedures.

Ngange Kebbeh

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biology from the University of The Gambia. Ngange has 8 years of experience in both clinical and research laboratory practices.
