Abaraka! British man cycled 400km to raise money for Gambian children

A selfless British man, Robert Coulter, has just completed a 400km fundraising cycling to support the education of Gambian children.

The 37-year-old, who was in The Gambia in March 2016 on holiday, has raised more than £1000 and the amount is still rising.

His efforts have touched the hearts of many, with friends, family and work colleagues helping him raise enough money on his JustGiving page.

Robert wrote on his page: “During my time in West Africa recently I was fortunate enough to visit some incredible schools and given the most incredible welcome of my life. The schools are often run by teachers on a voluntary basis for children truly desperate to learn.

“Still in Africa there are many children who must learn a trade working adult hours for nothing (but training experience) because their parents cannot afford to put them through school, even though to us the costs are minimal. The children are all desperate to learn and this should be encouraged.”

Robert is returning to The Gambia in January 2017.

“When I come back, will look for schools that are not visited by tourists and are more desperate than ever for school materials,” he told What’s On-Gambia.
