President Adama Barrow still hasn't fulfilled his promise to provide free WiFi hotspots and smart street lights for the people of Brikama.
The Gambian leader made the promise in July 2018 during a meeting in the town, which has a population of over 100,000. He drew wild applause when he told the crowd that his government will install smart street lights equipped with CCTV cameras and Wi-Fi routers across Brikama.
As the end of his first time in power draws closer, many are beginning to lose faith in President Barrow's ability to stick to his promises.
"I don't think he will fulfill his promise to us," said Muhammed Darboe, a resident of Brikama.
But Vice President Dr Isatou Touray told the National Assembly last year that her boss will deliver on his promise to the people of Brikama. She was responding to a question from Hon. Lamin J Sanneh, the National Assembly member for Brikama South.
“I cannot tell exactly when the street lights would be provided in Brikama with Wi-Fi and CCTV cameras. However, it is important to state that the goal of the government under Adama Barrow is to deliver a fully transformed Gambia that has a future, a country that is energy secured, food self-sufficient, and an investment-friendly destination," she said.
Barrow is seeking reelection on December 4.
