A 47-year-old police officer in Hertfordshire, England, has been jailed after being caught stealing a woman’s underwear during a house search.
Former officer Marcin Zielinski was recorded on a Ring camera taking the underwear from a bedroom drawer. He admitted to one count of theft and a charge of corrupt or improper exercise of police powers and privileges.
Senior officers condemned his conduct as a “fundamental betrayal of the public.”
Zielinski resigned from the force while under investigation late last year.
Last week, a British court sentenced him to four months in prison. He has also been barred from ever working in policing again.
“His criminal behaviour damages the reputation of policing and represents a fundamental betrayal of the public and the values for which the police service stands,” said one senior officer following the verdict.
