CONGRATUTLATIONS: Government awards 467 scholarships for UTG students

The Government of The Gambia made 467 needy students attending the University of The Gambia happy by offering them full scholarships.

The Vice President Dr. Isatou Njie Saidy, who presided over the award ceremony held recently at the Faculty of Law building in Kanifing, said the government is committed to making education accessible to everyone.

Out of the 467 students, 47 percent are female. According to the permanent secretary at the Ministry Of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Cherno Omar Barry, the largest number of the scholarship beneficiaries are from the School of Business and Public Administration, followed by the School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.

In an interview with What’s On-Gambia, the secretary of the University of The Gambia Student Union, Prince Almameh James Manga said: “It's really great for the government to provide scholarships for deserving students especially those from humble backgrounds.”

He added: “I commend all those officials who have contributed in one way or another in making it possible, and I want to implore the private sector to compliment the government’s efforts in the educational sector.”
