ENC wants government to reopen nightclubs

The Gambia's king of dancehall, ENC has called for the government of President Adama Barrow to reopen the country's live music and clubbing scene.

Entertainment venues including nightclubs have been closed since 27th March as part of national efforts to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

"If we can go to our overcrowded market, local ceremonies, now mosques and churches...what sense does it make if clubs are still on lock?! Open our damn clubs and concert halls, we matter too, and best believe we are essential! Stop sleeping on us," ENC wrote on Twitter.

More than 10 people shared the post including sprouting musicians, Chatta Chana Loum and Brikama's Chronik Bob.

One of his fans, Sarjo Jatta commented: "We understand that it's a job for some, but the lives of your fans matter most. So let us just pray for the best."

The state of public emergency was recently extended by 21 days with some relaxations.
