EU and US stolen Range Rovers on Gambia’s roads

The Gambia is now a dumping ground for stolen Range Rovers from Europe and the United States, according to reliable information reaching What's On-Gambia.

Despite costing from between D3m -D5m to buy new, the Range Rovers are sold in the Greater Banjul Area for a fraction of their retail or used value - sometimes less than D1m.

A prominent car dealer, who begged for anonymity, disclosed: "Most of the Range Rovers on our roads are stolen from countries like France. If you visit the Senegambia Strip, you will find them parked along the Bertil Harding Highway."

An NBC-affiliated television station, WBAL TV11, recently revealed that criminals in the USA are using countries like The Gambia to get their stolen cars exported and quickly sold.

In 2019, 249 stolen vehicles worth more than an estimated $10.3 million were recovered at seaports in Wilmington, Delaware, Philadelphia and Baltimore.

According to WBAL TV11, ninety-five percent of the vehicles were destined to West African nations, including The Gambia and neighbouring Senegal.
