A European expat was recently assaulted and robbed in broad daylight in the Senegambia Strip. 

In a Facebook post, Oleg Reznik disclosed he was walking along the beach when he was approached by a group of young men who tried to take his mobile phone from his hand.  

When he resisted, they punched him, causing him to fall to the ground. They then took his phone and disappeared. 

"I called for help, but hundreds of people just stood around and watched me beaten, without even trying to help. This all happened on the beach, in fact, in the middle of the day, between Balafon and Palma Rima Junction," he said. 

Oleg continued: "Some kind person carried me to the hotel in his arms, I could not walk myself, it seems my leg was broken." 

The Latvian-born, who works as a sales and marketing director in the hotel industry, said the country is no longer safe. 

He fumed: "This is how Gambia has become now. From the safest country has turned into an ordinary African crime. I have mastered this lesson, and I will not leave the hotel anymore. I don’t know what tourists should do when they arrive. There were so many robbers that it seemed that all the people on the beach were looking for targets."
