Fatoumatta Sankareh has been named the winner of Farafenni’s first kids singing contest after an incredible performance in front of a crowd of more than 2,000 people at the Farafenni Senior Secondary School Hall.

The 16-year-old was overwhelmed as she beat out stiff competition from Awa Mbye and Kumba Jaw to claim the crown.

Fatoumatta received a cash prize of D10, 000.

Speaking to What’s On-Gambia, one of the event’s coordinators, Muhammed L Darboe said: “We organised the contest to create a platform for kids to express themselves through music and also retain them in Farafenni not to go to the Kombos for the summer holiday.”

The contest saw the kids tackle some of the biggest music hits in Senegambia with impressive performances.
