The country’s most successful goalkeeper, Pa Dembo Touray has congratulated the newly-elected president of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Lamin Kaba Bajo.
Speaking to What’s On-Gambia, he said: “I want to wish him good luck, and hope he will work hard to help the players. He should try to stop favoritism in the game. Happy players bring results, trust me!”
Pa Dembo, who is currently playing in South Africa, suggested that Bajo should try to improve the infrastructure at the Independence Stadium, Bakau. The stadium, according to him, is the only big playground available in the country.
The former national goalkeeper also wants the GFF to bring back Belgian coach, Paul Putt. He was sacked after an unsuccessful attempt to take The Gambia to the 2011 African Cup of Nations.
“They made a big mistake by sacking Paul. He knows the players very well and used to keenly follow their performance with their different teams.”
Regarding the national team composition, Pa Dembo said Bajo should consider having experienced footballers on board.
“We need one or two experienced players in the team to help in guiding the young ones.”
Despite the difficult challenges facing Gambian football today, the award-winning footballer is optimistic that Lamin Kaba Bajo will bring change and new hope.
