A Grade 12 student has shared with What’s On-Gambia her account of an alleged inappropriate relationship with a nurse employed at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH).

According to the student, the two first met at Gambia Senior Secondary School in Banjul, where the nurse was visiting his sister, who is also a student at the school.

“He asked for my phone number, and I gave it to him. We stayed in contact and eventually became close,” she explained.

The student claims that the relationship developed over time, with the nurse reportedly inviting her to meet him privately. She expressed concerns about the nature of their interactions and the emotional consequences that followed.

Recently, she discovered she was pregnant and said she informed the nurse, who then allegedly encouraged her to consider ending the pregnancy. The student is currently sitting for her final exams and aspires to study nursing in the future.

The matter has raised questions about professional boundaries and the responsibilities of health workers when engaging with young individuals.
