The Gambian community in Sweden were in a frenzy of excitement when 14-year old Awa Santesson-Sey won Sweden’s first X Factor. This is a television music contest created by British music mogul Simon Cowell. It is held in different countries in the world.
Awa was born in Sweden to a Gambian dad and a Swedish mum. Although the parents are divorced, both were at the final in the Swedish capital, Stockholm to support their daughter.
In a similar development, Mary Ndiaye also born in Sweden to a Gambian mum and a Senegalese dad has been confirmed as one of the participants in the forthcoming Melodifestivalen. This festival is organised every year by Swedish public broadcaster Sveriges Television. More on this soon.
