Violent crimes continue to rise in Gambia

Violent crime

Since the arrival of the new government in January 2017, hardly a week passes without someone being killed with a knife or sharp instrument.

The most recent victim is a father-of-one in Sanyang, Kombo South. He was stabbed and killed by a Senegalese armed robber, sparking protest and calls for justice.

His death came less than 24 hours after a 26-year-old reveller was stabbed to death outside Brikama Jokor during an altercation.

In Bakau, another father was killed by his own son. He was allegedly beheaded while he was sleeping.

The Public Relations Officer at the Police Headquarters in Banjul declined to comment when asked about the massive spike in violent crime.
