Jimara NAM: “No, Mankamang Kunda doesn’t need a police station”

The National Assembly Member (NAM) for Jimara has said that President Adama Barrow's home village, Mankamang Kunda doesn't need a police station.

Hon. Alhagie Sowe (GDC) told What's On-Gambia: "I never supported it and will never support the construction of that police station."

He continued: "Mankamang Kunda doesn't need a police station. If there should be a new police station it should be at Gambisara or Sare Bojo. At Sare Bojo, they have an international lumo that attracts traders from both Senegal and Guinea Bissau."

According to the Jimara NAM, the construction, which is funded by the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), is close to completion.

When asked why Mankamang Kunda doesn't need a police station, Hon. Sowe said: "What we need in that area is a clinic or running water.  Not a police station. Bakadaji has a police station and it is located less than 6km from Mankamang Kunda."

He added: "The GPA is funded it just to please the president like they were doing during Jammeh's era."

However, in a press release, the GPA managing director, Ousman Jobarteh said the funding of the construction of the multi-million dalasi police station is part of their social corporate responsibility.
