A young woman who describes herself as a human rights activist has alleged that a teacher in Mandinaring has impregnated four students since beginning his employment at the school.
In a message sent to What’s On-Gambia, the activist requested assistance in investigating the teacher. She claimed she had received repeated reports from students and local community members.
“I am seeking your assistance in investigating a teacher in Mandinaring. I have been hearing rumours from students that he has impregnated four of them since he started working there,” she wrote.
She added that the most recent alleged case involved a young girl in the lower grades. “What makes me angry right now is that his last victim is said to not even have breasts. Such animals do not deserve to be around our children anymore. Please, I need your immediate intervention if the rumours are true. Please keep me anonymous,” she said.
But in a dramatic twist, the activist later backed away from the case after allegedly being warned by her husband not to get involved.
“I am sorry, I cannot go further in this matter. I just discussed it with my husband, and he asked me to stay away from this case. Even as a human rights activist, my hands are tied tight now. I already have a number of someone close to the school authority, but my husband is not allowing me to send it,” she wrote.
She added: “For the sake of my marriage, I am staying away. I hope you understand my helplessness. My mistake was I didn’t put it to his knowledge before writing to you guys because I was angry when I heard the rumours. I believe children don’t point fingers for no reason and without strong evidence.”
