Senegalese authorities have arrested a marabout, Romain Diatta, on allegations that he sexually exploited and impregnated eight young women who had sought his spiritual assistance.
According to local media, the victims had approached Diatta for help with personal difficulties but were instead subjected to abuse.
Reports indicate that two of the young women are siblings, and four of the alleged victims are minors under the age of 18.
Investigators say Diatta required the girls to undress as part of what he claimed were cleansing rituals. He allegedly coerced them into sexual acts, threatening to use his “jins” to harm them if they refused.
The case came to light after one of the victims reported the abuse to police, leading to Diatta’s immediate arrest. Authorities have opened a full investigation into the allegations.
