A mother-of-two has begged Gambian men to stop having sex with their wives while they are on their period. 

in a message to What's On-Gambia, she wrote: "Why would a man have sex with his wife during her period/ menstruation? Is it halal in Islam?"

She continued: "I am a victim of this nasty act and lately two ladies came complaining to me about the same thing. It hurts. It's dirty. It's unacceptable.

"Women are dying slowly in the name of marriage. Our health is also at risk"

According to Islamic scholars, Allah forbids men to have intercourse with their wives in the vaginal at the time of menstruation. 

Some argued that the Quran clearly stated the reason for this prohibition, which is that menstruation is adha (a harmful thing). Therefore, men are advised to stay away from women during menses.
