Fanta Jarjussey has revealed that her father is one of the most educated senior Gambians.
Foday Jarjussey was former president, Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara’s Permanent Secretary. He held the position until in July 1994, when the soldiers took over.
According to Fanta, her father is a graduate of University of York, which is among UK’s top universities.
“My dad is one of the most educated senior Gambians. He got a scholarship to the University of York. After spending time in England, he eventually returned to The Gambia and was one of the most influential people in the first republic, which is why he is still highly respected to this day.”
The controversial British-trained journalist said her father, who is based in London, has a profound impact on both her life and work.
“One of the biggest lessons my dad ever taught me is to be always honest and genuine, and live within my means. Another valuable lesson my dad taught me, which I have carried with me all my life is to fight with a pen and not with my fist.”
Fanta Jarjussey holds a B.A in Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Surrey. She is a well-respected journalist, who writes mainly on entertainment and fashion.
