Ndey Isatou Njie or Fatoumatta Tambajang? Who’s Gambia’s next VP?

Who is The Gambia’s next Vice President?

This is a question on so many lips following Freedom Newspaper‘s revelation that Ndey Isatou Njie is President Adama Barrow’s pick for the job.

According to the US-based online newspaper, Ndey Isatou, who works at the United Nations’ Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) as Chief of the Water, Energy and Strategies Branch, has already met with the Gambian leader about the role.

“Barrow has offered the position of VP to her. Although, her appointment is yet to be finalized. An announcement is expected soon,” wrote Freedom Newspaper.

More than 10,000 people read the story on their website within 48 hours of release.

One of the most outspoken supporters of the Coalition government, Ahmad Gitteh was quick to deny the revelation insisting the position of Vice President is already reserved for Fatoumatta Tambjang, who is currently overseeing the office.

He wrote on Facebook: “Let me assure all of you concerned and genuine Gambians that your vice president is Fatoumatta_Tambajang.

“Please free your souls and minds from anything stressful. Take it from me Ahmad Gitteh that President Adama Barrow will not pick a Vice President while Tambajang is alive and healthy.”

Although Ndey Isatou is unknown to many Gambians, she was the first Executive Director for The Gambia National Environment Agency (NEA).  Her brother, real estate mogul, Mustapha Njie, fondly known as Taf, is said to be very close to the UDP leadership.
