Nelson Mandela tribute concert set for The Gambia

A Nelson Mandela tribute concert will be held in the country at different venues this weekend, organizers confirmed to What’s On-Gambia.

“We want to celebrate the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. On the 3rd January, 2014 Bakau Lama lama is hosting it and the next day we will be at the Old School Nightclub. Mandela was a great freedom fighter and inspired many people around the world,” said Mo Hawk, the coordinator of the tribute concert.

Gee, Mighty Joe, Killa Ace, Silky Crise and Kerr Gi Family are among the top artists confirmed to perform. Mo Hawk said he will also be on stage to promote his new singles.

The concert is so far the only known event organized in the country to pay tribute to the South African freedom fighter and the country’s first democratic president, who died on the 15th December, 2013 at age 95.

“People should expect a great show with great artists on stage. So I would like to urge all Mandela fans and lovers of Gambian hip-hop to come out and support,” said the veteran rapper.
