The First Lady, Her Excellency Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh, was on Friday welcomed with cheers by dozens of excited pupils at the St. John’s School for the Deaf who waited for hours to meet her.
Madam Jammeh captured the attention of one of the boys, Yaya Conteh. Stepping forward, he embraced the First Lady in a hug with his head resting on her shoulder.
According to the school’s principal, Daniel J Mendy, Yaya is 13 years old and lives in Tallinding.
”He is in Grade 2. Yaya is the most outstanding in terms of all other abilities in class performance,” said the principal.
It was the First Lady’s first visit to the school. She was accompanied by the Minister of Basic Education and Health, Fatou Lamin Faye and Omar Sey respectively.
Madam Jammeh pledged to support the school.
