A teenage girl who was allegedly raped by her father has reportedly forgiven him and may decline to testify against him in court, according to information obtained by What’s On-Gambia.
A source disclosed: “It seems the girl doesn’t want her father to spend the rest of his life in prison. When he was detained by police, she was bringing food for him.”
The teenager, whose identity is being protected, was allegedly raped multiple times by her father, leading to pregnancy.
Police arrested him last month after he reportedly attempted to rape another daughter. The younger sibling alerted neighbors, who then informed the police.
During interrogation, the father admitted to sexually abusing both girls but claimed his actions were influenced by “Saitan.”
A lawyer told What’s On-Gambia that if the daughter refuses to testify or denies being impregnated by the father, the court may request a paternity test, which is now available in The Gambia.
“If it’s determined that he fathered the child, there will be no way for him to avoid consequences, even if the daughter refuses to cooperate,” the lawyer explained.
The father recently appeared in court and was remanded to Mile 2 prison.
