Professor Muhammed Kah is receiving lots of praises after successfully completing his five-year term as the vice chancellor of the University of The Gambia.
His daughter, Mariama Kah, paid tribute to him in a lengthy statement posted on Facebook. The young girl wrote:
It's much more than a simple shaking of hands and saying "Thank you." Gratitude is a feeling. A state of knowing recognition that encompasses not only the knowledge but the acknowledgement of the acts of another individual that were to ones benefit.
So for me to say Thank you, would not be befitting.
I have seen your toil first hand, and I recognise and I appreciate it. Your endless want for the elevation of others state of mind so that they may have the power of knowing ("kham-kham"); So that they may better themselves and better the land we call home; So that when you can no longer give anymore of yourself, there are still people in place that can; So that no one has to wonder if they could have made it had they been given a standing chance.
I've seen, and I know how much you've given of yourself to give all our fellow Gambians that standing chance.
And for that I am grateful.
I have seen the exhaustion in your face coupled with the exuberance of your generous soul.
And for that I am grateful.
I have seen your boundless sacrifices.
And for that I am grateful.
And why am I grateful?
Because in your standing tall, despite it all; in your walking the path less traveled; in your nonacceptance for anything less than and in your unconditional love resulting in your want for something greater; I your daughter learn the difference between good people and good souls.
Good people are kind and amicable.
Good souls have the innate inclination towards ethicality.
Good souls are bold, good souls cannot stand to see less than full potential, good souls are golden-hearted, good souls are humane, good souls are humble, good souls are neighbourly, good souls are selfless, good souls are wantless, good souls put the needs of others ahead of their basic own, good souls bear knowledgeable minds, good souls colour outside the lines and good souls are commendably rare.
And you? You've got a good soul...
May Allah the Almighty repay your great service. He alone knows the drudgery of the last six plus years. May Allah grant you with much success and happiness in everything that you do. May he grant you with a long, healthy and prosperous life and may he fill the hearts of the people whom you've aided with sincere gratitude.
I've got love and respect for you pops...
