Her tragic death sent shockwaves across the country last year, and now Sise Jaha Sawaneh has been honoured with a Legacy Award.
The outspoken activist won the award at the first edition of the She Awards Gambia for her extraordinary efforts in empowering and uplifting women and girls.
Sise's friend Sainey MK Marenah picked up the award on her behalf at the prestigious Jama Hall on Sunday (International Women's Day).
He wrote on Facebook: "The late Sise Jaha Sawaneh is a champion who will always remain in our hearts. So emotional to receive her Legacy Award. Continue to sleep well."
A former GRTS reporter, Sise died in a car crash in October 2019. The tragic accident happened in the Lower River Region while on her way to watch a football final.
Her last Facebook post, hours before her tragic death, was: “There is so much we can do, there is so much we can give, there is so much we can contribute and there is so much we can discuss at community level."
