Student abandons UTG to seek knowledge about his deen

A University of The Gambia (UTG) student's whereabouts remains a mystery more than three years after he abandoned his university education to seek knowledge about Islam.

Alasan Baldeh was a Science student at SOS Hermann Gmeiner Senior Secondary School in Bakoteh before proceeding to the UTG for his bachelor's degree.

Family members said they are concerned because they haven’t heard from him since he disappeared in March 2016.

One of them told What's On-Gambia: "Alasan bagged 7 credits in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and was offered a full scholarship to study architecture at the university."

He continued: "Before he disappeared, he sent me a message telling me that he's going to learn about his deen instead."

According to the family member, they have informed the Police about Alasan's disappearance.
