They’re also fasting: How Hakim, Singateh, Gee and Rugie plan to spend their Ramadan month

There is always a plan for the Ramadan month. Almost every Gambian has a plan. What’s On-Gambia contacted some of our country’s most popular artists and producer Hakim to hear how they intend to spend the Ramadan.

Rugie

I will spend mine with my family, so for me it’s more like a family thing. I will be partly responsible for preparing iftar for the family. I’m also planning to get a private oustass to brush up my surahs.

 Gee

I’ve lot of studio work to do. My mixtape project, Can’t Get Enough of That Feeling is still in the making   - it’s a free mixtape that I promised my fans and it would be available for free downloading online.

The plan is to book night studio sessions, like after nafilla. But I will always be up for fajarr prayers and then sleep till 2PM.

Ramadan is a month of taking your mind back to God. For eleven months we were carried away by life, so I’ll do a bit of reading the Quran. I’ve the English translation in my room, through that I can understand more and not just recite Arabic verses without knowing its meaning.  Happy Ramadan to everyone!

 Singateh

Singateh

I’m going to spend my Ramadan here in Norway. My intention is to fast and devote this time to God. It’s just one month out of the whole year, so it’s worth doing.  I will use the month to pray for myself and the rest of the world.

I will also be busy writing and composing, not singing because when you are hungry, you hardly have the strength to sing (laughs)

This Ramadan I intend to help my sons understand who Allah is - repeating English translations of Surah Al-Ikhlas and Ayatul Kursi. I would love to memorize at least ten of Allah's powerful names, what they mean and their uses. Plenty of Zikir with Allah's names, which is one of my favorite forms of meditation. Zakat is also high on my list of priorities. Pray for me!
