The SANXAANU KAGGORO FILM KAFFO (SANXAAFI) is a leading socio-cultural organization using the power of audio-visual arts for sensitization, youth empowerment and generic cultural diplomacy in The Gambia.
As part of its creative activities, it is organizing the third edition of its annual CINEKAMBIYA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (CIFF) in style. The urban screenings take place from the 25th to the 30th December 2017 and rural Gambian ones will be in Baddibu Kerewan, NBR, on the 1st January 2018 and Sotuma Sere in Jimara, URR, on the 4th January 2018. The theme for this year's edition is FILM AND THE RIGHTS TO TRUTH IN TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE in reflection of the current state of the new Gambian political dispensation.
The venue for the opening event is The Gambia Centre for Victims of Human Rights Violations in Kotu on Monday, 25th December 2017 from 7pm GMT onwards. BLEEDING BLADE, the first Gambian feature film on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and gender rights by Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu will open the festival. Additional screening venues in the Kombos are the Yunus English School in Busumbala on the 26th December, Alliance Française in Kanifing on the 28th December, Senegambia College in Bijilo on the 29th December and Team Sankanu Hub in Tallinding near Ahmadiya Hospital on the 30th December 2017 respectively.
Over 20 Gambian made “CINEKAMBIYAN” films will be screened as well as foreign films from Togo, Germany and Iraq. One of the highlights of the CIFF 2017 is the announcement of nominees for the Pan African Screens Awards (CIFF) that will take place in Gambia during the course of 2018.
