So, how did you two meet?

I met him at the Atlantic Hotel in 2012. He was on a business trip with a friend. By then I was a dancer, entertaining the tourists.

Was it love at first sight?

No! We started as friends. When he returned to England, we started chatting online and after a month we began dating.

Tell us about your first date.

We went out to have a drink at Ali Baba in Senegambia. We had a chat and I noticed he is the right man. He is nice, respectful and neat. He is honest since day one.

When did you get married?

After one year. We had our traditional marriage in 2013.

What was your family’s reaction?

Before we got married, I introduced him to my family, because you know Fulas, they are very strict.

His religion was an issue, but he later agreed to convert to Islam. My family took him to the mosque and gave him my father’s name and surname. He is now a Muslim.

Did you live together before marrying?

Yes, because we got to know each other better. It was difficult, but it was important for us. My family was happy that he agreed to convert. They are so proud of us.

Do you agree that European men with Gambian girls are only interested in sex?

It is not true. I was born and raised in The Gambia. Most of my friends are married to black men, so I know the difference.

Most black men don’t know how to treat their wives. They are selfish. They don’t know how to talk to women and treat them with respect.

Are you saying you made the right choice?

Yes I did! I followed my heart and my man is respectful. He likes my family and also loves black people.

Some European partners don’t like their Gambian in-laws, but not my husband. He is rare to find.

Are you planning to have children?

We are planning to have a family, but right now I am focusing on my modelling career. Modelling is something I like a lot.

How is life in England compared to The Gambia?

Life in England is different from The Gambia. Everything is developed here.

Are European men romantic?

Honestly, I don’t know. I can only tell about my husband. He is my best friend and brother. He is a unique somebody.

What is the best present he ever gave you?

Love! That is the biggest present he gave me!
