Why did Cherno Marenah reject Barrow’s job offer to be Minister of Justice?

Solicitor General Cherno Marenah turned down an offer from President Adama Barrow to be the Minister of Justice last month, it has emerged.

The idea was allegedly discussed with the UK-trained lawyer, but he suggested the position should be given to someone else.

It comes after Ba Tambadou resigned for a UN job in the Netherlands.

A source disclosed: "Marenah was the first person who was contacted to replace Ba, but he declined the offer for reasons I don't know."

Another source, who works at the Ministry of Justice, said: "I heard Marenah is waiting for an international appointment. He may leave the country very soon."

Dawda Jallow, a former student of the Solicitor General, was later offered the job.

"He lectured Dawda both at the University of The Gambia and The Gambia Law School," said our source.
