Drama has erupted in Kerr Sering after a man was arrested for taking a 15-year-old girl as his second wife, and his family is pointing fingers at his estranged first wife.
But she says they’ve got it all wrong.
Speaking to What’s On-Gambia, the woman blasted the accusations, insisting she had nothing to do with the police report.
“Let them ask the police who reported him,” she fired back. “I didn’t even know the girl was underage until after his arrest!”
According to her, she was shocked to hear the new bride was just 15.
The drama didn’t stop there. She also rubbished claims that she was already divorced.
“If I was an ex-wife, why would I go to the Cadi Court to ask for a divorce?” she said. “Check Bundung Court – they have the records!”
She accused her husband’s relatives of spreading lies to turn the scandal on her.
“They are lying. They want to blame me for everything,” she said. “All I want is for this man to divorce me and for his family to leave me alone!”
The man was arrested shortly after the wedding ceremony, and the teenage bride was taken to the children’s shelter in Bakoteh.
