A young mother, Isatou Jallow, was allegedly assaulted by her sister-in-law in Nema Alkali, leaving her with serious injuries to her head.

According to a source who identified himself as Isatou’s brother, the incident followed an altercation between Isatou’s child and her sister-in-law’s child. He alleged that the sister-in-law attacked Isatou with a pestle, prompting her to be rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

In an audio message shared with What’s On-Gambia, Isatou said the dispute began after the two children had an altercation that later escalated. She alleged that her sister-in-law then attacked her with a pestle.

Isatou said the matter was reported to the police in Nema. But she alleged that the police were reluctant to investigate the incident or charge her sister-in-law.

She further claimed that while she was receiving treatment at the hospital, police officers repeatedly asked her to report to the station to provide a statement, which she said was not possible given her condition.

Isatou’s brother said the family wants the matter to be properly investigated and for appropriate action to be taken against the alleged assailant.
