Famous cookbook writer, Yassin Jallow is the kind-hearted woman behind a plan to feed more than 15,000 Muslims in the Greater Banjul Area this Ramadan, which is expected to begin in May.
She’s done it last year, but on a slightly smaller scale.
Yassin, who lives in Canada with her family, revealed: “Our activities last year were restricted in the capital and the urban areas of The Gambia. This year we plan to deliver meals a little further into the interior of the country.”
A fundraising page launched by the cookbook writer and her team has already raised more than D50,000 towards it D1m target.
Posting on GoFundMe, Yassin said: “Help us raise $37,000 CAD to feed approximately 15,000-17000 people during the Month of Ramadan. Last Year we raised about $9,000 from family, friends and institutional donors. We were able to cook and deliver 5305 ‘Iftar’ Meals, delivered to the prison, orphanages, hospitals, Mosques and street corners.”
The Canada-based mother added that donations would be used to buy food items, additional utensils, snacks and drinks and pay for transportation and wages for the cooks.
