This year’s European tour will be one to remember for Jaliba Kuyateh.Â
Rumours are running wild in Sweden that the country’s leading singer was gifted a brand new Kai Sportage 4WD from Teneng Ndure, a prominent young businesswoman living in the Swedish capital.Â
The new car is said to be Jaliba’s biggest present since the start of 2013.Â
Our source disclosed that the businesswoman also gave the kora singer’s two wives 10,000 krona each and showered them with gifts. She also provided accommodation to some of Jaliba’s band members during their stay in Sweden.Â
Responding to the rumours, Teneng told What’s On-Gambia: “ We have to support Jaliba Kuyateh. He is the biggest artist we have. I’m a big fan and when he sings, I know what I feel. Yes, I gave him a car, but not for him to praise me. My relationship with Jaliba is not today.â€Â
She urged Gambians to support their own artists and contribute in promoting Gambian music to the wider world.Â
Teneng was a popular national athlete and in 1997, she carried our national flag at the opening ceremony of the Amilcar Cabral Zone II. The former sports journalist, who worked with the likes of Lamin Cham and Landing Aboy Colley, is currently building an orphanage in Tallinding and also has a sponsorship program to help needy children to stay in school.Â
“She’s a well respected businesswoman, who travels to Asia to buy goods. Teneng is widely praised for her philanthropic activities,†our source added.Â
A delighted Jaliba Kuyateh is still on his European tour. He told What’s On-Gambia that he would be returning to the country in the beginning of December 2013.Â
