A concerned young man from Kombo North has called on the government and the National Assembly to ban “sabari gudi”, citing noise disturbances and sleep deprivation caused by the loud drumming and speaker systems.
In a message sent to What’s On-Gambia, he expressed frustration over the late-night festivities, which he described as a violation of basic human rights.
“Last night, I couldn’t sleep because of this nonsense sabari gudi,” he wrote. “This is absolutely a violation of human rights. If it cannot be done during the day, then let them go to the forest and do it there. That would be better than disturbing people and depriving them of their right to sleep.”
When asked where he resides, the young man said he lives in Wellingara, Kombo North, but noted that the sabari gudi took place in nearby Tabokoto, close enough to disrupt his night.
It remains unclear whether sabari gudi requires prior approval from the police or local authorities. Efforts to verify this information with the police were unsuccessful.
