Discussing his musical preferences, the Minister of Youths & Supports, Alieu K. Jammeh told What’s On-Gambia that he’s a huge fan of Gambian music, naming the likes of Killa Ace among his personal favorites.
He said: “I have his CD in the car, and I always listen to it.”
Minister Jammeh, who seems so down-to-earth, added that our young artists have the ability to stand out and profile the country through music.
He encouraged Gambians to join efforts and support them to reach their target goals.
The minister was among the dignitaries that attended the Bring Back Our Girls campaign held last Friday at the American Corner, where Killa Ace was the guest artist.
Currently, there is a widespread call that promoters, companies and the government should stop inviting foreign artists and paying them more than D200, 000 – and then only giving less than D10, 000 to our own local stars.
In a recent interview with What’s On-Gambia, afro manding star, Jali Madi Kanuteh said they need adequate support to make the music industry more viable and internationally competitive.
According to him, he has no problem with promoters bringing artists from Senegal, but they should always ensure that local artists are properly paid, and not only used as opening acts.
