Zeamat, an emerging rapper from Wellingara, has responded defiantly to criticism following the release of a provocative video featuring his latest single, Jekalima.
The video, which shows him singing while resting his head on the bare buttocks of a naked woman, has sparked widespread backlash online.
Speaking to What’s On-Gambia, Zeamat said he remains unfazed by the criticism: “They cannot stop me because I know I have the talent. I know who I am, so I don’t care about them. They should go and find something to do. At least I’m doing something.”
The explicit clip has gone viral, racking up thousands of views and sparking debate across platforms like TikTok and Instagram. One commenter wrote in Wolof: “Purr fame dafa jarr lii yep? I don’t blame you. Janha bi la blame dafa nyaka faida rek.”
Another added: “I don’t blame you. Jangha bii la blame. Yena yii dra jarut ko,” suggesting the woman in the video should be held accountable rather than the artist himself.
Zeamat declined to go into detail with What’s On-Gambia about his music career or what he hopes to achieve with the controversial video.
