Sprouting football star Lamarana Jallow has signed his first international contract with Sporting Clube de Portugal (known as Sporting Lisbon) – the club that produced and sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United in 2003.
The 19-year-old recently joined the Portuguese side’s team B, where Ronaldo started his professional career.
His former team, Elite United FC announced the news on their Facebook page. They wrote: “We are pleased to announce that Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon have signed Gambian youngster Lamarana Jallow from Elite United. He will be competing in the B-team.”
The team disclosed that the youngester is the first Gambian to sign for Sporting Lisbon.
Lamarana said: “First of all, I want to thank Sporting CP for the opportunity to play for a club with so much history and which is the current national champion. I am very happy to be part of this family, where great players took their first steps.”
The 19-year-old was earlier this year named by the American multinational basic cable sports channel, ESPN, as one of the six best players in the 22nd edition of the U-20 African Cup of Nations in Mauritania.
