Omar Saidykhan has dropped his police beret to settle for unlikeliest of jobs, at least for a former Gambian policeman: fitness model. He is now based in England and has since set up his company, Blak Panther Modelling .
What’s On-Gambia: Tell us briefly about yourself?
Omar: I was born in Kani kKunda village in 1980; the second son of five siblings. After serving eight years in The Gambia Police Force and working for United Nations integrated mission in Timor-Leste, I resigned and moved to the UK.
When and how did you get started with bodybuilding and modeling?
I've always been interested in keeping fit but I didn't take it too seriously. I started training in 2012. And for the modeling, I started that last year.
What was your body like before you started training?
My body was slim but athletic.
How often do you work out?
I work out 5-6 times per week for two hours each session. I don’t use any supplements.
Tell us about your company, Blak Panther Modelling?
Blak Panther was created to promote my modeling work and display a portfolio of my work to potential clients.
Do you always get attention from girls?
It’s part of the package of being a model. So, women are attracted to me, but I don't let it go to my head.
What type of Gambian girl is your type?
I don't have a particular type - a good personality is more important.
What are favorite exercises and why?
I like training my shoulders, chest and abs because in men physique they create a good shape.
Do you participate in competitions?
I have just participated in my first competition and I took 3rd place in Men's Physique Category. I also have a competition in September 2015, which is the Face of the World at the Birmingham Fashion week.
Is it easy to get six pack abs?
No, it’s not easy or everyone would have a six pack (laughs). It takes dedication, time and patience.
What is your favorite Gambian meal?
Domoda!
