Sizzla Lion Jadama is unquestionably one of the most well-known members of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the Diaspora. In this brief interview, he tells us more about himself,  his WhatsApp conversation with First Lady Fatoumatta Bah Barrow, among other things: 

What's On-Gambia: How did you get the name Sizzla? 

Sizzla: The Jamaican reggae musician, Sizzla Kalonji is my favourite musician and that was why my friends gave me his name. 

Tell us briefly about your childhood? 

I was born and raised in No Kunda, Badibu. I attended primary school there but later moved to Bakau for my senior secondary education. 

When and why did you join the UDP 

I became a member in 2010. UDP is a mighty party that always puts The Gambia first, nothing else but The Gambia. I am convinced that it's the party that can move the country forward under the leadership of my Godfather, Hon Lawyer Ousainou Darboe. 

Are you sure that your party can win a presidential election? 

What are you talking about? Yes, 100%, no doubt about that. UDP is the biggest party in the country. 

Why do you always attack people who don't support your party? 

I don't attack people. I am a democrat, people have the right to support any party they want. But I will not sit and watch people insult my party leader. He is an honourable person who should be respected by all Gambians. 

Tell us about your WhatsApp conversation with the First Lady. 

I sent her a message and she replied and asked; "who are you?" I responded that it was me, Sizzla Lion Jadama and she further asked where I got her number. I decided to call her, but before we could start a conversation, she hung up on me. I later discovered she changed her number. 

Do you have her new number? 

No. 

Why are you people welcoming back UDPians who left your party for Barrow? 

UDP is for all Gambians, if people decide to come back we will welcome them because we need numbers. 

Who's your favourite journalist? 

Pa Modou Bojang. He always says it like it is without favour or fear.
