Akon's father, Mor Thiam was allegedly robbed in his hotel room at the Coco Ocean Resort & Spa. Jewelry, mobile phones, and cash worth thousands of dollars were reported to be stolen.

The incident happened on January 20, while he was in the country to attend President Adama barrow's inauguration after winning the 2021 presidential election.

In his statement to the police, Mor wrote: "I am a guest at Coco Ocean hotel on January 20, while sleeping someone came in through the balcony and stole my belongings."

According to him, some of the stolen items include an iPhone 13 worth over D90,000.

One of his Gambian friends, Basamba Drammeh said the incident occurred due to a breach in security. He disclosed: "Until today we have not received any compensation or formal apology from the management of Coco Ocean."

He added: "Mr. Thiam was in the country to witness Barrow's inauguration and also to finalize an investment project. We hope the police will do a proper investigation because The Gambia and Gambians can't miss an investment opportunity that could change so many lives."

So far, the evidence gathered suggests the burglary to be a work of an experienced thief or group of thieves.
