Alieu Ba has quit social media after abuse allegations from multiple women he dated online.
The activist, who once suggested that all rapists should be hanged, allegedly tricked some of the women into giving him their hard-earned money.
After receiving widespread condemnation, Alieu announced on Facebook that he is taking a break from social media saying: "I will withdraw from it all, all the fame, activism and causes."
He disclosed: "I never set out to be an activist. But I became one. It wasn’t an identity, it was a vocation of bettering our collective condition permanently. I have broken down and wept as a child and as an adult over what I and the family went thru. I have seen and lived in the dregs of poverty — one that you read in the books and see in the movies. I could have lost my mind because of it, but I carried on. I give thanks for still being here. Thru it all. In the by and by."
The activist told his fellow activists: "Keep on the fight. I will be on the other side. Praying, hoping and knowing that eventually, a fierce love of our own will be our salvation. Goodbye, my people."
