He’s now one of the best young artists in the country. Bai Babu held a concert celebrating the 1st anniversary of his fan club, The Brain Crackers – and it was a huge success.
On Saturday, 24th May, 2014, Jakarlo in Senegambia was packed with local music enthusiasts. Wow! What a concert!
As usual, the rap-mbalax star was able to impress the crowd with his belting voice and energetic stage presence. The fans couldn’t hold their shrieks of excitement when he stepped on the stage.
Bob Marong, a Gambian-American, was so happy to see Bai Babu on stage.
He told What’s On-Gambia: “It’s great. I love this kid. He can rap and knows how to perform in front of a crowd.”
Buba Camara was amongst the cheering crowd. He said: “He got me bobbing my head. Bai Babu is a star.”
What’s On-Gambiawas denied media accreditation, and this made it difficult for us to interview the rap-mbalax star. According to one of his fan club managers, we were not welcomed.
The editor of What’s On-Gambia described the decision ‘as childish’. He said: “Some of these Gambian artists think they are immune from negative reports. They better start learning how to handle the media.”
Some of the guests were disappointed that the concert started very late. The invited artists, like T Smallz, were forced to shorten and rush their performance for time constraints.
Overall, the concert was a success. Major props go out to The Brain Crackers for putting on an amazing show. Taka Yii!
