A Kairaba Avenue apprentice lawyer, who bagged her degree at the University of The Gambia, on Friday attacked What's On-Gambia followers as uninformed people who are always engaged in misogynistic bullying.
Ms Ngenarr-Yassin Jeng made those distasteful comments while defending Magistrate Pierrette Sarr Mendy, who was facing a backlash on What's On-Gambia's Facebook page over her judgement in the trial of the infamous Abdoulie Gaye, a 21-year-old reckless driver who killed three youngsters while racing another driver on the Bertil Harding Highway.
In a Facebook rant, the young lawyer said the famous online media outlet is run by idiots who "gaslight women and let their uninformed/misinformed readers engage in bullying, targeted harassment and online GBV and then they will sit aside and act innocent."
She continued: "This energy they are using to taint Her Worship where has it been through all the rape cases? Nope they will rather come and attack women. Idiots yileh."
Responding to Ngenarr, the editor of What's On-Gambia said: "Some of these young activists from Kairaba Avenue are so delusional that they think they own Gambia and Gambians. They’re in a constant struggle to superimpose their views on people.
"As a lawyer, Ngenarr ought to know better. This is a young woman who we celebrated multiple times on our page. She should learn how to express her views in a polite and courteous manner instead of insulting a whole group of people for merely holding different opinions.
"We wish to state that we value and respect our followers, who come from the wider cross-section of the Gambian society. Most of them are decent, intelligent and productive people impacting lives in their unique ways.”
