At the TRRC: Why wasn’t Sagar promoted to replace Horejah?

Sometime last month, the Ministry of Justice announced that Haddy Dandeh Jabbie will replace Horejah Bala-Gaye as Deputy Lead Counsel at the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC).

Horejah resigned in December 2019 to return to her old job at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

The question on everyone's mind after the Ministry’s announcement was: why wasn't she replaced by Counsel Sagar Cecilia, a Master's Degree holder in International Human Rights Law?

A source close to the TRCC disclosed to What's On-Gambia: "Some of us were surprised when we heard the announcement that an outsider was recruited. Sagar has a rich resume with great experience and she is qualified to occupy the position."

According to the Ministry of Justice, which is led by the most arrogant and divisive minister in the country's political history, Horejah’s replacement, Haddy Dandeh Jabbie is an experienced advocate of women and children’s rights.

She is the president of the Female Lawyers’ Association Gambia (FLAG), a non-governmental organization that is aimed at uplifting and enhancing the legal status of women and children in The Gambia, through the domestication of major treaties, agreements and protocols relating to the rights of women and children.
