Pakalinding offers free land to anyone who moves there

In some parts of The Gambia, a small plot of land would cost you over D350, 000. But in the Jarrangka village of Pakalinding, land is free.

According to Ousman B. Kinteh, a UK-based son of former chief Buwa Kinteh, the plan was put in place decades ago to stimulate growth in the rural village which has a population of less than 3000.

"Our family, the Kintehs, are the founders of Pakalinding. We don't sell land. It's free for people who are ready to relocate and build a home on it," he said.

Ousman added: "I know many who were given land there. Unlike other villages in the country, you cannot resell the land."

Located a stone's throw from the Senegambia Bridge, Pakalinding is undoubtedly one of the most popular villages in the Lower River Region.

One of its prominent sons is Seedy Kinteh, a former boss of the Gambia Football Federation. He contributed significantly in the promotion of grassroots football in The Gambia.

In 2007, Pakalinding FC was the Under 17 football champions in the whole Jarra West after beating Njogu Demba Academy.

Anyone interested in owning a plot of land can visit the village.
