Hundreds of mothers, daughters and granddaughters have united to support Rohey Malick Lowe’s bid to be elected as Banjul’s first female mayor.
The budding politician, who was living in Sweden for many years, was last week selected as the United Democratic Party’s mayoral candidate in the upcoming local government elections.
Lowe’s campaign secretary, Isatou Njie urged women in the city to step forward and take their rightful place in society.
According to her, one of her candidate’s major plans is to transform Banjul into a modern city, where women are empowered to lead full and productive lives, children and families prosper.
An elderly woman from the Serer community also said: “There is nothing that would stop Rohey Lowe from winning and I told her this when she visited me to inform me that she is running for mayor.”
Rohey Malick Lowe is right now the most popular mayoral candidate in Banjul. Her videos showing her campaign activities garnered more than 100,000 views on Facebook.
